Artos, Süphan & Ararat

A ski-mountaineering program using Artos and Süphan for acclimatization before the Mount Ararat summit attempt.

Highest point: Up to 5,137 m

Before you pack

Requirements first. Equipment second.

Use this as a preparation guide for the selected mountain. The season, route, weather and guide’s assessment always determine the final list.

Planning note

The equipment list is conditional on snow, avalanche and access conditions. TAF Travel and the mountain guide confirm the final list before the trip.

Mountain requirements

  • The Ararat section follows the authorization and authorized-guide requirements for Mount Ararat. TAF Travel confirms the current route and access before departure.
  • This is a high-altitude ski-mountaineering trip, not a resort ski holiday. Strong uphill fitness, reliable touring technique and confidence in variable snow are required.
  • Snowpack, avalanche exposure, pack-animal logistics and the position of the camps can change the plan. The guide makes the final decision on route, skis and crampons.
  • Prepare for long days, cold camps and a summit attempt above 5,000 m. High-altitude travel insurance with evacuation cover is strongly recommended.

Personal equipment

  • Touring skis, skins, ski-touring boots and poles
  • Crampons, ice axe and helmet as specified by the guide
  • Avalanche transceiver, shovel and probe when required by the current plan
  • Ski goggles, glacier glasses and high-SPF sun protection
  • Windproof and waterproof ski layers, insulation and spare gloves
  • Headlamp, sleeping bag for cold camps and insulated sleeping mat
  • Water bottles or thermos, personal medication and energy snacks
  • Passport, insurance details and a small summit pack

What TAF Travel arranges

  • Local guides, transfers, mountain camps and support services vary by program and conditions.
  • Confirm which group equipment, porters and camp equipment are included before departure.
