Summer: July to September
For a trekking ascent, July, August, and September offer the most settled conditions. The lower slopes are free of snow, the camps are accessible, and summit days are more predictable. Even in midsummer, though, nights at high camp are cold and the summit can be windy and below freezing.
Spring: ski touring
When the mountain is still covered in snow, Ararat becomes one of the most memorable ski touring objectives in the region: a long climb with skins and a descent from a 5,000-metre volcano. This suits experienced ski tourers who are comfortable on varied snow.
Outside the season
Autumn and winter bring deep cold, storms, and short days. We schedule our departures around the windows that give you the best chance of a safe ascent; you can see current dates in the tour calendar.
