Mount Ararat

The Mount Ararat climbing permit, explained

Who issues the permit, how long it takes, what it costs, and which documents we need from you.

Why a permit is needed

Mount Ararat lies close to Turkey’s borders with Iran and Armenia, so climbing it requires an official permit. You cannot simply turn up in Doğubayazıt and start walking.

Faster than it used to be

Since 2015, permits have been issued by the local authorities in Doğubayazıt rather than in Ankara. The procedure now usually takes one to two weeks, which is why we ask for your documents at least two weeks before your arrival. Applying yourself through a Turkish embassy is possible but typically takes one to two months.

The permit currently costs 50 USD per person.

What we do for you

We prepare and submit the application for everyone who climbs with us. You send us the requested personal and passport details, and we keep you informed until the permit is issued. TAF Travel is a TÜRSAB-registered agency (no. 18150).
