Full itinerary · Mount Kazbek Fixed-Date Expedition

The itinerary is adapted from the supplied Mount Kazbek program and arranged in the TAF Travel format.

Day 1

01

Arrival in Stepantsminda

Meet at the Mountain Travel Agency office in Stepantsminda for the expedition briefing, route conditions, glacier safety, altitude acclimatization, and gear-use preparation. Overnight in a guesthouse.

Day 2

02

Sameba Trinity Church to AltiHut

Drive to Gergeti Trinity Church and trek through green valleys toward Sabertse and AltiHut at about 3,000 metres. Luggage continues toward base camp while you carry a daypack.

Day 3

03

Trek to Meteo Station

Continue from AltiHut to the Meteo Station, also known as Bethlemi Hut, at about 3,653 metres. Settle into the high mountain base and prepare for the acclimatization days.

Day 4

04

Acclimatization and glacier skills

Hike toward 4,000 metres while your body adjusts to altitude. Practice rope handling, crampon, harness, helmet, and self-arrest techniques with the guides.

Day 5

05

Mount Kazbek summit attack

Start around 2:00 a.m. after a weather check. Cross icy sections and snowfields toward the Plateau at 4,300 metres, the saddle at 4,900 metres, and the 5,054-metre summit before descending to the Meteo Station.

Day 6

06

Return to Stepantsminda

A horse guide helps take the luggage down from the Meteo Station. Descend for approximately four to five hours before returning to Stepantsminda.

Day 7

07

Reserve day

A dedicated reserve day protects the summit attempt against poor weather. If conditions are unsuitable on summit day, the climb can be repeated when the mountain allows.

Day 8

08

Departure

After breakfast, depart Stepantsminda for Tbilisi or the airport.
