A classic volcanic cone
Damavand (about 5,610 m) is the highest peak in Iran and the highest volcano in Asia. Its symmetrical cone rises above the Alborz range, and the standard route is a non-technical but long and high ascent, similar in character to Ararat.
Summer ascent or ski tour
In summer, the climb follows a well-used path to a high hut or camp before the summit day. In spring, Damavand becomes a big ski touring objective with a descent of more than 2,000 metres. Both programmes include time for acclimatization.
Good preparation for bigger goals
Damavand is a good test of how your body handles altitude above 5,000 metres. Climbers who have done Ararat often choose it as their next summit.
